Focus Keys

• Go get it! Cut ball off on deep.
• Power of good. Pass middle and 4'-5' off net instead of trying to be perfect.

Passing Key Words

• Wide base with push off 1-2-3 footwork

Setting Keys for Volleyball

Concepts 

Make hitters successful:

• High
• Off net 3-6 feet (never close to net)
• In front of the hitter
• Inside court (never outside)

Keys

• Compact posture (hands at mid-body)
• Right foot forward
• Face front target
• Hands in the shape of the ball early. FOR BEGINNERS: Sign Language Moose for location.
• Push your feet through the floor
• Full extension (“Superman”)
• Freeze extension (hands high at finish) for Location (height, depth, zone)

Hitting Keys for Volleyball

• Athletic posture
• Approach (Right)---LEFT---Right-Left
• STICKY LEFT step
• Slow directional sticky left-foot step
• Fast burst to right-foot plant step pointing at setter
• Open the door - hips and shoulders face setter
• Throw hands high and elbow back 
• Explode up to the ball. High point.
• Tilt and extend shoulder max reach
• Slam the door shut - finish facing net
• Hit ball hard (increase to 9 out-of 10) at 10 o'clock
• High wrist snap to target
• Land safely on two feet

Defense Keys for Volleyball

Concepts

• Read hitter: Angle of approach > shoulders > arm swing > hand
• Call what you see
• Be where ball will most likely go
• Be ready. Go get it! Ball UP!
• Pride ball off floor
• Dig “good” middle 5-10 feet off net,  setter to libero 10-15'

Keys

• Wide base push off 1-2-3 footwork

• Low + forward posture (Arms under ball)

• Shoulders low to floor

Blocking Keys for Volleyball

• Athletic posture
• Verbalize what you see
• Be Athletic. Get arms and hands in front of hitters.
• Higher hands for easier timing
• Penetrate wide rounded hands over net, surround ball to floor
• Take angle
• FINISH hands high

Outside blocker SETS BLOCK

• Read hitter 
• Front angle-of-approach, call “inside” or “outside”
• Line up arm swing (outside hand/angle, inside hand/line)

Middle Blocker CLOSE BLOCK

• Read setter extension

Serve Receive Keys for Volleyball

Serve receive considerations

1. Rotational order when serve is contacted
2. Put best passers in position to cover      court effectively and take most serves (3-person pass)
3. Put Setter in place close and easy to un (setter release) to net/setting position
4. Put hitters in place easiest to hit preferred set. Right-handed hitters stack left is easiest.
